World Cup Football Results – Belgium and Czech Won in Group E

Though Belgium fell behind in the first two minutes against Estonia, they recovered admirably to win. As Belgium came from behind to win their World Cup qualifying football match, the Czech Republic won too. Also in Group E like the Belgians, the Czechs won marginally, by 1-0, over Belarus. So, among other World Cup football results, Belgium and Czech won in Group E over Estonia and Belarus respectively.

Belgium recovered from an early setback in Tallinn with a 5-2 win over Estonia. They thus still maintain the top spot in their World Cup qualifying group.

Mattias Kait gave Estonia, ranked 110 in the world, a shock lead inside two minutes at A. Le Coq Arena.

This put the Red Devils behind for the third time in four Group E matches.

Belgium, playing for the first time since losing to Italy in the Euro 2020 quarter-finals, responded before the half-hour mark.

Thy equalized on their hosts’ lead with a Hans Vanaken header and Romelu Lukaku’s clinical finish doubled their lead.

Lukaku then scored a brace in the match, as he doubled his own goal tally early in the second half.

Axel Witsel and substitute Thomas Foket also added goals to Roberto Martinez’s side.

Belgium have three wins and a draw from their first four qualifying games, despite Erik Sorga’s late consolation for Estonia.

Match Report

Estonia had won their previous three matches and took an early lead when Kait turned over possession.

He carried the ball forward, and rifled a shot past Thibaut Courtois.

Belgium quickly found their rhythm and was level 20 minutes later thanks to Vanaken.

The latter scored with a headed equalizer from five yards out. He thus added to his two goals in the 8-0 qualifying win over Belarus last time out.

The prolific striker then took advantage of some poor home defending to put Martinez’s men ahead.

He picked up his spot after Karol Mets’ clearance hit teammate Vladislav Kreida and fell into his path.

Alexis Saelemaekers came close to extending Belgium’s lead with a shot that rebounded off the goal frame.

But they didn’t have to wait long for their third as Lukaku worked a yard of space. The now-Chelsea striker curled the ball past Karl Hein.

Witsel scored from close range after some excellent work from Yannick Carrasco.

Carrasco also played a superb pass over the top for Foket, who had come off the bench 10 minutes earlier.

Foket then sneaked in behind for Belgium’s fifth goal.

Seven minutes from time, another substitute, Sorga, pulled one back for Estonia, but Belgium was already home and dry.
