Union Berlin vs USG
Europa League
Alte Försterei
The champions of the Belgian league, St Gilloise travelled to Berlin to face Union Berlin. The Bundesliga side with their experience in European football were favourites.
As expected the hosts did manage to hold onto most of the possession. Their opponents meanwhile were happy to defend and create chances on the counter.
However, neither team created many significant chances. Thus, both teams played cautiously in their first Europa LEague fixtures. The breakthrough came through Lynen for the Belgian side. As he scored the opener in the 38th minute.
Neither team was able to trouble the scoresheet again as the gam witnessed no further goals. However, Sven Michel was sent off in the dying moments of the game. This forced the German side to complete the fixture with just 10-men.
