UEFA Are Preparing to Begin the Bidding Process for Euro 2028

While FIFA hopes to host the World Cup in 2028, UEFA is moving on with plans to host the European Championships. Indeed, the people at UEFA are preparing to begin the bidding process for Euro 2028 already.

Arsene Wenger, FIFA’s head of global development, is lobbying for a reorganization of the international football calendar. He wants FIFA to hold the global championship, that is, the World Cup, every other year, meaning every two years.

However, this proposal of a biennial World Cup has already faced much dispute, from players and league presidents alike. Gareth Bale (the football news) has contested playing a World Cup every two years. And so has La Liga president Javier Tebas

If Wenger’s plans meet approval, though, he could host the first of FIFA’s biennial World Cups in 2028.

This has sparked continuous speculation of the World Cup playing in the same year as the Euros, in 2028.

Despite the growing strength of these disputed FIFA plans, UEFA have laid out preparations for Euro 2028, claim Sky Sports.

UEFA Are Preparing to Begin the Bidding Process for Euro 2028

UEFA, the governing body of European football, has vehemently rejected FIFA’s plan for a biennial World Cup.

Such a schedule would see the continent’s own showpiece international event, Europe’s Euros, playing in ‘odd’ years starting in 2025.

UEFA, on the other hand, expects the European Championship finals to be placed in seven years, as planned.

Indeed, they are even rushing to announce the bidding procedure on Tuesday.

Any countries having an interest in hosting the tournament must submit their interest by March 20, 2022. After this, UEFA will declare the winning bid in September 2023.

For hosting the 2028 competition, which will once again include 24 teams, UEFA will accept solo or combined bids, too.

As for the Euro 2024 competition, Germany will be the sole host, after they beat Turkey in the voting process.
