Rio Ferdinand hopes that Manchester United will finally work on the purchase of Spurs’ striker Harry Kane in the summer. The English former international advised Erik ten Hag on his own YouTube channel. In the meantime to get another striker instead of Wout Weghorst: Medhi Taremi.
The Medhi Taremi suggestion
After the transfer-free departure of Cristiano Ronaldo, Ten Hag wants reinforcements for the vanguard, but United only has a budget for a rental transfer in January. The club has therefore ended up with Wout Weghorst , who is currently still rented out by Burnley to Besiktas. However, Ferdinand would rather see another striker come to Old Trafford. “I would have gone for Taremi from Porto,” he suggested.
The question is whether the Iranian World Cup visitor is financially feasible. Taremi is still with FC Porto for another year and a half and has a clause of sixty million euros in his contract. Since the thirty-year-old striker is again of great value to the champion of Portugal this season with eighteen goals in all competitions, it is highly questionable whether Porto would be willing to rent him to United.
Ferdinand agrees that United should get a striker and thinks the club should pay for Kane in the summer. “Man United need to find a number 9 in the summer who they can build on for the next three to four years and who scores 20 to 25 goals every year. Then who do you get? You will have to pay a lot of money for Kane, but you know that you will bring that player in,” Ferdinand adds.
United is linked to Napoli striker Victor Osimhen. But Ferdinand wonders whether the club is wise to attract the Nigerian top scorer from Napoli. “If you shop outside the Premier League, it’s a risk. Unless you’re talking about Mbappé. You have to pay a huge amount of money for Osimhen, 100 to 120 million,” says Ferdinand. “Harry Kane can only go to one club: Man United.”
