Six Favourites to Win the Golden Boot at Euro 2020

Of all the players participating with their countries, we have six favourites to win the Golden Boot at Euro 2020.

Many of the world’s best strikers will be on display during the European Championship. And fans are sure to witness a fierce and crowded race among them to top the goal list.

Here are our six favourites to win the Golden Boot at Euro 2020, in increasing order of likeliness:

6. Timo Werner

Timo Werner was widely regarded as one of Europe’s hottest strikers last summer.

This was when Euro 2020 was initially scheduled, and incidentally, when Werner’s form for RB Leipzig was at a peak.

However, his first season in English football has been extremely difficult, despite the Blues finishing in the top four and reaching the Champions League final.

The Chelsea striker has often appeared unsure of himself and fans have criticized his apparently lacking aim in key moments.

Still, we are betting on the striker to again tap his potential soon, and excel with Germany’s Euro 2020 squad.

5. Cristiano Ronaldo

There isn’t much more to say about a player who has won the FIFA Ballon d’Or five times.

Only, Cristiano Ronaldo, despite playing a lacklustre season with Juventus, may win the title with Portugal in Euro 2020.

However, the 12-month delay to the competition will not have helped him now that he is 36. Also, this could be his final major international tournament.

But for this very reason, he may find motivation to score the highest number of goals in the Euros.

4. Harry Kane

England’s striker Harry Kane earned the Golden Boot at the 2018 World Cup with six goals.

So, he is a natural favourite to replicate that feat at Euro 2020.

His goal against Leicester on the final day of the domestic season carried his tally to a whopping 23 goals. It also earned him the Premier League Golden Boot once more this season.

Kane has scored 12 goals in qualification. And as England’s penalty taker, he has a good chance of repeating as top scorer.

Finally, England’s home advantage in the tournament could help his chances.

3. Romelu Lukaku

Romelu Lukaku is another striker who is in excellent form heading into Euro 2020.

After Lukaku scored 24 goals in Serie A, Inter Milan ended Juventus’ domination by winning the title.

The former Manchester United striker scored seven goals in qualifying.

Even better – Lukaku has more than 50 goals for his country as he approaches a century of appearances.

2. Kylian Mbappe

Kylian Mbappe was a standout performer at the 2018 World Cup, scoring four goals in the tournament.

Indeed, he also scored one of the four goals that won France the final in Russia.

So, it is not surprise that he will be one of the most feared marksmen in the European Championship.

The quickness of the PSG attacker makes him a headache for any defence.

The 22-year-old will also get a boost from the presence of Karim Benzema and Antoine Griezmann in France’s attack.

1. Robert Lewandowski

Robert Lewandowski has set a Bundesliga record with 41 league goals for Bayern Munich this season.

The Poland striker has surpassed Gerd Muller’s 49-year-old Bundesliga record, which was believed to be unbeatable at 40 goals.

However, on an international level, Lewandowski has only one goal in each of the last two European Championships. Worse, he has scored no goals at the 2018 World Cup.

Still, he has 66 goals for Poland, averaging more than one goal every two games, proving his skill.

And we cite him as our very favourite to win the Golden Boot. That’s not just because of his spectacular form for the past two seasons, at least.
