Head coach Diego Simeone’s Atletico Madrid won La Liga ahead of Real Madrid and Barcelona. And as reward for winning this title, now, Simeone has signed a new contract with La Liga leaders Atletico Madrid.
Diego Simeone has extended his contract with La Liga champions Atletico Madrid until 2024, giving the team a boost.
The 51-year-old’s contract was going to expire in 2022, but, earlier this year, Atletico were reportedly considering extending his stay.
Simeone Has Signed a New Contract with La Liga Leaders
Confirmation of Diego Simeone’s new Atletico Madrid deal came on Thursday, from the club itself.
The club said in a statement: “Diego Pablo Simeone has signed a contract extension until June 30, 2024.”
“The members of his coaching staff have also signed contract extensions until 2024,” it added. “Oscar Ortega, Pablo Vercellone, Nelson Vivas and Hernan Bonvinvini have also played a big role in our recent success.”
Diego Simeone played as a defensive midfielder with Atlético in the 1990s and 2000s.
Simeone took over Atlético in December 2011. Since then, he has become is the coach with the most consecutive seasons in charge of a Spanish league club.
The Argentine is also Atlético’s most successful coach after he’s won them 316 match victories and eight titles.
And Atletico honored his contributions for their club across the years: “Since the Argentine joined in 2011, we have enjoyed one of the most successful phases of our club’s history – winning eight trophies in the process.
“During this period, Simeone has become the coach who has won the most titles (eight) and games (316) in our club’s history.”
“Pride. Responsibility. Challenges. Joy,” Simeone has himself said on Twitter. “Happy to continue at Atlético de Madrid.”
