Saúl Ñíguez came through the youth ranks of Atletico Madrid. And was an excellent servant to the club for the better part of a decade. Ñíguez made 230 appearances and managed to score 26 times with Atleti. However, things did change as Diego Simeone looked to replace the Spaniard with Rodrigo De Paul.
Due to the arrival of the Argentine, Saúl Ñíguez joined Chelsea on loan for the 2021–22 season. It included an option to make the transfer permanent upon the completion of the loan. However, making just 10 appearances with the London outfit it is now announced that Chelsea will allow Saul to move back to his parent club.
Chelsea announced: “Saul Niguez will return to Atletico Madrid following the completion of his one-year loan spell at Chelsea.”
Writing on social media about his departure, Saul said: ‘Hello Blues, I’m writing to take my leave of you. I would like to tell you how I felt during this adventure. Things didn’t start well at all. After a long time at home, changing everything wasn’t easy.
‘Thanks to all the fans for supporting me through thick and thin. I will be forever grateful. Thanks to all the staff for making it possible for me to win titles with the blue shirt. But above all, I wanted to thank my teammates. They have been fundamental so that I wouldn’t fall apart. They helped me to continue supporting the team and live a calm and positive day to day. Thank you!’
