Saudi Arabia vs Mexico
FIFA World Cup
Group C
30th November 2022
Lusail Iconic Stadium
Preview
Saudi Arabia is not exactly the country people associate with football. And not for nothing either, because the Arabian team has not been able to produce any notable successes so far. The 2022 World Cup is the big chance for the Arab national team to step out of the shadows and finally show the world what they’re made of. But even if Group C is far from the toughest at the 2022 World Cup, the opponents are superior to the Arabs, at least in theory. Saudi Arabia managed to win 1:2 against Argentina in the first game, which almost shocked everyone. In the game against Poland, however, Saudi Arabia suffered a 2-0 defeat.
Mexico are one of those teams that make the headlines ahead of the tournament but never go far. They managed to defeat the reigning world champion Germany at the World Cup, but failed in the other games. When it comes to the times between the major tournaments, Mexico presents itself as a very strong team. After drawing against Poland and losing against Argentina, they currently have 1 point, which means that the upcoming game against Saudi Arabia is at stake for them.
Saudi Arabia
Saudi coach Herve Renard, who has been in charge since 2019, has put a lot of energy into preparing the team well for the 2022 World Cup. The team’s defense is their strongest part, although it didn’t seem like it in the last two games. The team’s big problem is that it has hardly any talented youngsters and hardly any well-known names in its ranks.
Mexico
Unlike Saudi Arabia, the Mexico team is not short of household names. Arguably the team’s strongest players are Napoli’s Hirving Lozano and Ajax Amsterdam ‘s Adson Alvarez . Of course, coach Gerardo Martino doesn’t just put his hopes in the few players who play in European leagues. Thanks to the best preparation and hard training, Mexico has proven its strength in recent years, which is reflected in the FIFA world rankings, where they are currently 13th.
