Group E
Matchday 1
Milan finished bottom of their group last season in the UCL. However, much was expected from the Italian champions leading into the game.
Salzburg, meanwhile, got out of their group last season. They even managed to take a lead in the 1st leg against Bayern. Yet they went into the game as the underdogs.
The hosts struck first in the 28th minute. The visitors, however, managed to get themselves an equaliser in the 40th minute.
Neither team troubled the scoreboard operator further as the fixture ended 1-1.

Managers’ reaction
Stefano Pioli, Milan coach: “We could have done better. It’s a good result, and a good performance, but not our best level.”
“The players are not satisfied with the game. We lacked speed in the build-up, they started well, we fought back until the end, but lacked something to win it.”
“We didn’t expect the other result in the group, but it goes to show how unpredictable football is. The next game is crucial for us.”
Matthias Jaissle, Salzburg coach: “Big compliment to the fans! We had an atmosphere we had wished before. But we also showed such a performance that the fans can go home in good mood tonight.”
