Ross Barkley has signed for OGC Nice as a free agent. Barkley had left Chelsea by mutual consent, terminating his contract on 29 August 2022.
The summer transfer window ended last Thursday. However, being a free agent allows him to commit today with the Gym.
Barkley joined the then defending Premier League champions Chelsea in January 2018. The transfer fee was reported to be £15 million.
However, the midfielder managed just 58 appearances over the last five seasons at the Bridge. He also had a loan stint at Villa Park, which failed to bring significant success.
He now joins the Ligue 1 club with 320 appearances in the English game. Furthermore, he is also an England international with 33 caps to his name.
Les Aiglons announced, ‘Midfielder Ross Barkley (28) has joined OGC Nice on a free transfer after four-and-a-half years at Chelsea.
‘A British blend of talent, technique and aggression topped off with character, the 28-year-old has decided to continue his career at Le Gym.
‘The robust attacking midfielder established himself at the highest level over a decade in the Premier League (232 games, 29 goals), winning 33 caps (6 goals) for England, playing at the 2014 World Cup and the 2019 Nations League, as well as being a member of the EURO 2016 squad..
‘Welcome Ross !’
