Reiss Nelson assures he is not looking to leave Arsenal and reveals he is awaiting a contract extension

Reiss Nelson assures that if the decision is in his hands he will soon agree to a new contract with Arsenal. On Sunday against Nottingham Forest, the 22-year-old attacker had the opportunity, and he seized it gladly.

Before the break, Nelson replaced the injured Bukayo Saka. With two goals in his opening Premier League minutes this season, the former Feyenoord star made a positive impression. That makes Nelson want more since his contract with Arsenal expires in the summer of 2019. In a chat with the Athletic, he calculates, “That’s only a few months away.” A new agreement would be wonderful. I want to stay, take a chance, and just support the group.

Reiss Nelson assures fans he will extend his contract

Nelson’s outstanding performance against Nottingham suited him well because the attacker has only had a small part to play since moving back to London. Nelson missed the opening few weeks of the season due to a thigh injury, and manager Mikel Arteta only used him in the Europa League after that. But in this group, I never questioned my abilities. I have a very, very strong affinity with Arsenal since I have been playing here since I was eight years old. Of course there were times when I felt depressed, but I never intended to quit the club.

Nelson will have the opportunity to play more minutes for the Gunners on Thursday. The North London club will welcome FC Zurich to the Emirates in a Europa League fixture. The visitors have already been knocked out of the tournament, but will look to pull off an upset. By doing so the Swiss club puts themselves in contention for a spot in the Conference League knockouts.

However, for that to happen, Bodø/Glimt have to drop points against PSV in the other fixture of the group. As for Arsenal, a win would avoid them the hassle of going through the round of 32.
