Paul Merson recently wrote in his column in Sky Sports. He strongly believes as long as United star Rashford is not injured, he should make it into the WC squad.
Paul Merson believes that due to Rashford’s recent revival in form. However, the former Villa man would go on to say Marcus deserves the spot more than Toney.
He further compared the situation with that of Jadon Sancho. Who according to Merson is not in much better form when compared to Rashford.
Merson wrote: “I think it is an injustice to the United man if he wasn’t injured. I believe he will add and hence get into the final 26-man. But he needs to keep doing what he’s doing.
“It will depend on Toney’s impact in the two Nations League. But if he fails I don’t see him getting into the squad.
“There is no one else in the English setup to step up within that time. Keane mentioned it perfectly, mentioning if you’re not playing for your country, you’re not very good.
“I hear shouts about Jadon Sancho, but he’s scored just twice in the Prem and has got no assists. He’s not in incredible form. He did score a brilliant goal against Liverpool. But I don’t think it would be enough.”
