NFL Legend Don Shula Passes Away

According to world media, one of the best coaches in the history of the American Football League (NFL), Don Shula passed away on Monday at the age of 90.

With 328 wins, Shula is still the most successful coach in NFL history. He has 10 more wins than sophomore George Halas, while current New England Patriots coach Bill Belichick is third with 273 victories.

The Miami Dolphins, whom he led for 25 years and won two championship titles with, mourn his passing. “Coach Shula was one of the few people who showed great size in every aspect of his life. He will be missed by many, but his legacy will remain,” said Dolphins CEO Tom Garfinkel.

Shula led the Dolphins from 1970 to 1995 and won the Super Bowl in 1973 and 1974 from the Miami team. In the 1972/73 season, Shula and the Dolphins had the only perfect season in history, winning all league games (14-0) and the playoffs (3-0).

In addition to two championship titles, Shula led the Dolphins to three more Super Bowl appearances, losing in 1972 to the Dallas Cowboys, 1983 to the Washington Redskins, and 1985 to the San Francisco 49ers. Prior to the Dolphins, he led the Baltimore Colts from 1963 to 1969, with whom he lost the “Super Bowl” to the New York Jets in 1969.
