Real Madrid defeated Liverpool for the fourth time in the Champions League.
They took a 3-1 aggregate lead in their quarter-final tie, as Vinicius Junior scored twice.
In the 24th minute, Trent Alexander-Arnold made a careless pass. Ozan Kabak sparing his teammate’s blushes by blocking Karim Benzema’s path to the goal.
Toni Kroos’ excellent pass set up Vinicius, who opened the scoring for Real after three minutes.
Kroos spotted a gap between Alexander-Arnold and Nathaniel Phillips and dropped an inch-perfect pass onto Vinicius’ chest. The latter took it in stride skillfully, before drilling it right home.
Sadio Mane felt the rage when a free kick was not awarded. Even Jurgen Klopp felt the barge from Lucas Vazquez deserved one.
Nine minutes later, Alexander-Arnold made another mistake that would cost his side another opponent goal. It set up Marco Asensio to extend the lead to 2-0.
Alexander-Arnold headed straight into Asensio’s direction, who calmly nudged the ball over goalkeeper Alisson. The ball flew through an empty net.
Then, Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah scored a vital away goal, giving the Reds some potential to fight back.
After Asensio squandered another golden chance, Jurgen Klopp brought on Thiago Alcantara as substitute to Naby Keita.
Liverpool equalized six minutes later, with Salah tucking in after latching onto a deflected shot.
However, Vinicus scored a second goal, and this time in the second half.
Vinicius’s low shot was easily helped into the corner by Alisson to restore Madrid’s two-goal lead.
