In breaking news around football today, former Chelsea midfielder Michael Ballack’s 18-year-old son has passed away after a bike crash.
The 18-year-old son of Michael Ballack, Emilio Ballack, has tragically died in a quad bike accident, according to reports.
Initial reports say that Emilio lost his life in a bike accident. His bike crashed close to the family’s holiday home, near Lisbon, in Portugal.
Chelsea immediately reached to their former midfielder Michael and his family via the football news on their official website.
The Premier League club has stated it is in shock and deep sadness to learn young Emilio Ballack has tragically died.
Michael Ballack’s 18-year-old Son Has Passed Away
The accident allegedly killed the teenager in in the early hours of Thursday morning, early, at around 2am.
Portuguese media are reporting that the fatal accident occurred in Troia, south of Lisbon. The bike accident was on a plot of land close to a house that his father, the Germany legend, owns.
Ballack reportedly have purchased the property on the western coast of Portugal several years ago.
Indeed, the retired legend recently posted photos in his Instagram page of the village of Comporta. That’s where he and his family have been on a summer holiday.
The report further claims that firefighters rescued his son Emilio Ballack, the teenager, from the nearby town on Grandola.
Michael or his family have not confirmed the news yet, but Chelsea have issued a brief statement expressing their deepest sympathies for the Blues hero.
“Everybody associated with Chelsea Football Club is shocked and saddened to learn of the death of Emilio Ballack at the terribly young age of 18,” it read.
“All our thoughts are with his father Michael and his family at this sad time.”
It’s a tragic loss for 44-year-old Ballack and his family. The former midfielder is arguably one of Germany’s greatest-ever players and Chelsea fans, especially, have fond remembrances of him.
