Memphis Depay may replace João Félix and make the switch from Barcelona to Atlético Madrid this month. The Orange international has come on the radar of the Rojiblancos.
According to Cadena SER, Atlético Madrid has set its sights on Memphis as a replacement for João Félix, who is well on his way to Chelsea to finish the season on a rental basis. The Portuguese would now be in London to complete the move.
Memphis would be interested in a (temporary) departure given his poor prospects at Barcelona. The Dutch attacker seems to have to take into account a role on the second plan in Camp Nou.
Atlético would already be negotiating with Barcelona about a lease until the end of the season. The Catalans are open to a departure from Memphis, but reportedly desire financial compensation. According to Diario Sport, Newcastle United and Manchester United are closely following developments.
Matheus Fernandes’ lawsuit
In other news about Barcelona, the Catalans have suffered a financial setback. The Catalans have to pay Matheus Fernandes a huge compensation after he was wrongfully fired. The former player won a lawsuit against the club.
In 2020, Barça paid around seven million euros for Fernandes to loosen him from Palmeiras. Under trainer Ronald Koeman, however, the midfielder did not get further than seventeen minutes of playing time in the first team. A rental period at Real Valladolid also ended in disappointment.
Barça decided to nullify the contract with Fernandes. The midfielder moved to Palmeiras, but contested his dismissal at Camp Nou. He took Barcelona to court and claimed to be owed millions of euros by the club.
According to Mundo Deportivo, the judge has now ruled in favor of Fernandes. The Catalans have to pay no less than eight and a half million euros for the transfer flop, after he was wrongfully shown the door. A miscalculation for Joan Laporta. The chairman sent Fernandes away, but is now presented with the bill.
