Matt Targett following the arrival of Lucas Digne in Aston Villa this January was loaned out to Newcastle. The left back has impressed in his time at St James’ Park. The Englishman has established himself as one of the staples of the squad making 13 appearances for the club in the Premier League.
Matt Targett signed for Aston Villa upon their promotion to the English top flight from Southampton. Targett did deliver solid performances in his time at Villa Park. However, with the current situation at the club under Steven Gerrard, he has been linked with a permanent move to the North.
Former Leeds United goalkeeper Paddy Kenny has commented regarding the situation in a recent interview with Football Insider.
“I would think it just needs to be announced,” Kenny told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.
“Targett has been so good and it is telling that he has never missed a minute since he came in.
“At Villa, I think Digne has that starting spot at Villa now and Targett won’t want to go back to playing second fiddle.
“He must love playing at Newcastle, the fans seem to love him. I can’t see why it wouldn’t happen.
“It works for everyone. I can’t see anyone complaining about it, to be honest.
“I honestly think there must have been talks behind the scenes.”
