Lingard Talks about Setbacks at Manchester United

Manchester United midfielderJesse Lingard revealed that at Manchester United he had “a lot of setbacks.”

After going through the club’s academy, Lingard has established himself at Old Trafford, making more than 200 senior appearances. He had a difficult journey through youth football, a series of loan transfers, and a lengthy lay-off in 2014 with a knee injury.

“I was still small, I played most of the Under-16s games when I was in the Under-18s because a lot of players were bigger than me, but I wasn’t particularly bothered,” Lingard told The Official Manchester United Podcast.

About why he didn’t excel at the United, Lingard mentioned: “I’ve always worked hard, I’ve always stayed behind, always done what was right. I guess it’s about holding to the plan, but you’re going off track sometimes. I went on loan, I had to compete there and fight for my place when I came back to United.

“I’ve been injured on my debut and I’ve been out for six months and I’ve had a lot of losses but if you keep fighting, working hard and believe, the dreams come true. It’s the biggest club in the world and it’s hard to start from the bottom and work your way up.

“It’s a lot of challenges on the road, plenty of peaks and lows, but when you eventually get to the end, you’re competing for the first week of the season, week out, you’re appreciating every moment you’ve experienced.”
