Leipzig midfielder Konrad Laimer came through the ranks of the club’s youth academy. Since 2017, the Austrian has made 167 appearances for the German outfit.
With his contract set to expire in 2023, he attracted interest from a lot of clubs this summer. Bayern Munich was the forerunner to sign the 25-year-old. However, the deal did not go through.
Laimer has a contract with Leipzig till the end of the current campaign. He will likely be out till the end of the year as a result of a syndesmosis ligament injury.
Now, the Salzburg native has opened up about the failed transfer in an interview. “In the summer, I would have been prepared to make the move. Leipzig’s approval was extremely close to coming, but it didn’t. It’s good since I’m a key player, on the one hand. However, it’s also challenging because you think a lot. But I’ve accepted it now. It just continues,” Leipzig midfielder Konrad Laimer said.
“Neither does one of the top clubs in the world knock every summer. However, you are unable to alter it. I like to concentrate on the present moment. When you overthink anything, you miss what’s really crucial. It will be challenging to return to the field during the first half of the season. Because of this, it’s crucial that I allow myself enough time to let everything heal and perform a thorough rehabilitation so that I may attack completely once more in January.”
