“When I was at Sunderland, Roy Keane told me that if you ask for somebody’s jacket, it looks like you’re afraid of them,” Jordan Henderson said to The Mirror, when talking about why he didn’t exchange shirts with Lionel Messi.
Roy Keane taught him an important lesson during Liverpool’s Champions League battle with Barcelona last season. Then the Liverpool skipper was at Sunderland, Keane was Henderson’s boss- and the long-time Manchester United great informed his players never to participate in the time-honoured jersey swap tradition.
“Did I consider asking for his shirt? No. I never did,” he said. But Henderson went home with one Blaugrauna shirt from the Camp Nou former team-mate Suarez. “I came home as it turned out, with the shirt of Luis Suarez,” Henderson said.
