John Murtough, the football director of Manchester United mentions the club is ‘ahead of schedule’ in terms of recruitment plans

John Murtough, the football director of Manchester United mentions the club is ‘ahead of schedule’ in terms of recruitment plans.

The club went through a high number of transfers this summer window. With big names like Paul Pogba, Jesse Lingard, Juan Mata, Nemanja Matic and Edinson Cavani leaving the club.

However, the club had made few exciting signings. With the likes of Tyrell Malacia, Christian Eriksen, Lisandro Martinez, Casemiro, Antony and Martin Dubravka coming into the squad.

John Murtough views this tactic in the window as being ahead of their schedule. He also mentions further transfers will take place next summer rather than the upcoming January transfer window.

“In the past transfer window we invested significantly in the playing squad. Adding five starting lineup players including a balance of experienced international players and younger, emerging talent,” Murtough addressed the investors.

“Many important players left the club which is more than usual and so we needed to rebuild after a poor 2021-22 campaign.

“Ten Hag will continue to be backed and we will ensure he has the right quality athletes and characters to achieve success, while making sure we remain financially sustainable.

“Overall, we are ahead of schedule in our recruitment plans as envisaged at the start of the summer, and we do not anticipate the same level of activity in future windows. As always, our planning focuses on the summer window.”
