Islam Slimani has joined Stade Brestois as a free agent after his contract with Sporting CP expired

Islam Slimani has joined Stade Brestois as a free agent after his contract with Sporting CP expired. Islam has signed a one-year deal and has an option for another year.

The forward will add much needed experience to the Brest side. He brings in over 15 years of senior football experience.

Slimani has represented top teams like Sporting CP, Leicester City, Newcastle United, Fenerbahçe, Monaco and Lyon. He is also Algeria’s all-time top scorer having earned 87 caps.

The Pirates announced: ‘Big blow achieved by the Stade Brestois which attached the services of Islam Slimani (34 years old), ultra referenced player in Europe. Top scorer in the history of the Algerian selection, he arrives from Sporting Portugal with whom he broke his contract to join the Ty-Zefs for a season (+ one optional).

‘He will take part in his first training session this Thursday, August 25 and will wear number 13.’

“I spoke with Greg and the coach and I felt confidence on their part, that’s what’s most important in football,” commented the Fennecs striker on his arrival. “Here, it will be a new challenge for me, it will help me to surpass myself and I think I can bring more to this team, thanks in particular to my experience”.

“I was not specifically targeting France, it was done by feeling. I know that Ligue 1 is physical. That you have to make a lot of effort and fight in every match to win points. But I think I know what to do to perform here. Either way, I’m ready!”
