Infantino Has Spoken Up about a Biennial World Cup

FIFA chairman Gianni Infantino has spoken up about a biennial World Cup idea.

Arsene Wenger, FIFA’s head of global development, has proposed holding a World Cup every two years, instead of four. This means that there would play a World Cup in 2028, the same time as Euro 2028 (the football news).

And so, along with several players, coaches, and league leaders, now UEFA are also against a biennial FIFA World Cup.

Now, Gianni Infantino, the chairman of FIFA, has commented on the idea of holding the World Cup every two years.

“A World Cup with 48 teams [from 2026 onwards] has already been decided,” Infantino stated, as per Sky Sports, in football today.

“Whether it will take place every two or four years, that is under consultation.”

“Definitely believe in having more prestigious events, whether it be the World Cup or anything else,” Infantino continued.

“Precisely because it is a magic tournament, I believe it should happen more often.

“The prestige of an event depends on its quality, not its frequency.

“You have the Super Bowl every year, Wimbledon or the Champions League every year, and everyone is excited and waiting for it.”
