Héctor Bellerín has joined FC Barcelona after terminating his contract with Arsenal. The defender has signed for the Catalan club until the end of this season. Barcelona has included a buyout clause of 50 million euros into the contract.
Bellerín joined FC Barcelona’s youth academy in 2003 as an eight year old. He then moved to Arsenal youth set-up in 2011 as a 16 year old.
The defender over the past 10 years has made 183 appearances for Arsenal. Excluding loan moves to Watford and Real Betis.
The Spain international has earned four caps for the national team. He now moves back to his hometown after 11 years.
Barça announced, ‘FC Barcelona and Héctor Bellerín have reached an agreement to sign the player, after the defender terminated his contract with Arsenal Football Club.
‘The player will sign a contract until 30 June 2023 and the buyout clause has been set at 50 million euros.
‘FC Barcelona will shortly be announcing the details of the official presentation of Bellerín as a new member of its senior men’s team.
‘He will thus be putting the blaugrana jersey back on after an absence of 11 years. The youngster departed La Masia for North London in 2011.’
Arsenal bid farewell to the defender, stating: ‘We say goodbye to the Spanish defender who made north London his home for over 10 years, as he rejoins Barcelona on a permanent transfer.
‘Hector’s dedication to our club was truly rare and made him an unforgettable player, on and off the pitch.’
