Guardiola Provided Positive News about Gundogan’s Knee Injury

Ilkay Gundogan was injured in Manchester City’s 3-2 defeat to home side Brighton and Hove Albion. Soon after the midfielder quitted the Amex pitch hurt yesterday, coach Pep Guardiola provided positive news about Gundogan’s knee injury.

30-year-old Gundogan, who now has 17 goals in all competitions this season, didn’t leave the pitch without making his mark.

He made Pep the fourth Premier League manager to reach ten goals scored in the first two minutes of play.

The midfielder scored City’s opening goal in the 107th minute itself, after a pass from Riyad Mahrez.

A short time after Gundogan bravely continued despite a reckless first-half challenge from Alireza Jahanbakhsh, he suffered a knee injury.

Pep Guardiola criticized Jahanbakhsh’s role in Gundogan’s eventual departure.

Meanwhile, Manchester City’s medical staff are “optimistic” about Ilkay Gundogan’s health, according to Guardiola.

“Tomorrow we are going to check it. The doctor is quite optimistic,” Guardiola told a news conference. “The problem is he had a kick and he was running in the second half with a disturbance. I didn’t want to take a risk, that’s why we did the substitution.”

Chelsea’s N’Golo Kante’s fitness may also be a concern after he picked up an injury in Chelsea vs Leicester City.

From the Opposite Side

Head coach Graham Potter was ecstatic that Brighton went from 0-2 down and missed opportunities to a 3-2 comeback win.

“It was an emotional feeling in the stadium and I thought the players gave a top performance which the crowd appreciated.” Potter said.

“Obviously we benefited when they went down to 10 men so early, but we still had to play well and with the personality that we did,” he continued.

“We have improved and we have a young team that can get better and better.

“I am really pleased for the players. They have had a tough year, they have stuck at it and it’s nice to enjoy a fantastic victory with our supporters and get to 41 points.”

He was also glad this final match enjoyed the rallies of excited crowds, now partially allowed back into the stadium.

“The supporters were fantastic and it was a great game,” he said.
