Future of Youssoufa Moukoko: Dortmund’s sporting director Sebastian Kehl is as uniformed as the rest

Borussia Dortmund wants clarity quickly about the future of Youssoufa Moukoko. Sporting director Sebastian Kehl has indicated that the club is still in the dark about the exact future plans of the eighteen-year-old top talent.

There is time pressure for the Dortmund leadership, because the young striker has an expiring contract. Talks between the club management and representatives of Moukoko are scheduled in the coming weeks. Previous negotiations failed. Moukoko has a luxury position, according to both German and English media, he is in the interest of Chelsea, Barcelona and Manchester United, among others.

Dortmund’s policymakers would like clarity before the start of the second phase of the Bundesliga season. BVB will resume the competition on January 22 with a home game against FC Augsburg. “Of course we want a choice to be made as soon as possible,” Kehl told the Westdeutsche Allgemeine Zeitung. “It is important for everyone that there is clarity,” he puts the pressure on again.

In the absence of Sébastien Haller, Moukoko earned first striker status at Dortmund in the autumn. The two-time German international scored six times in the Bundesliga this season and was accurate on average once every 128 minutes of play in the competition. A transfer-free departure from Moukoko would be very painful for Dortmund, which already picked up the teenager in 2016 at FC Saint Pauli.

Barcelona interest

Barcelona wants to attract a young striker in the coming transfer period, who can develop alongside and under the care of Lewandowski into the striker of the future at Camp Nou.

The lack of financial strength increased the Catalan question marks about a possible deal, which was ultimately not closed. Endrick has made his way to La Liga with Real Madrid. Barcelona chose to look at the other options.

The Catalan club has set its sights on Moukoko (18), according to Diario Sport, among others. The German World Cup goer is a cheaper option given his contract situation. His contract with Borussia Dortmund expires next summer.

Barcelona is not the only club with an above-average interest in Moukoko. Chelsea also sees salvation in the German teenager. Especially after failed attempts to win over Endrick, London’s eyes are on Dortmund in the hunt for a new striker.
