Santos Has Summed Up Portugal’s Match

Head coach Fernando Santos has summed up Portugal’s match against Luxembourg.

They won 3-1 in the World Cup 2022 qualifying match.

“We got off to a very slow start,” said Santos to UEFA’s official website.

Santos has summed up Portugal’s match further by saying: “The first half hour was like a friendly, we lacked intensity. [Before half-time], we brought our speed on just once, in the 25th minute, thanks to a brilliant display from Cancelo.”

“Otherwise, we played extremely amorphous. I told the players that technique alone is not enough,” he went on, however.

“We should be more balanced in terms of intensity. If you rely solely on technique, any opponent will give us trouble. We woke up, added momentum and scored an important goal,” he continued.

“In the second half, we won all the battles, added intensity, and Luxembourg looked completely different. We could have won by a bigger score.”
