Roma Will Get a New Coach After This Season Ends

Paulo Fonseca will relinquish his duties as the head coach of Roma at the end of the 2020/21 season. As the 48-year-old steps down, Roma will get a new coach after this season ends, according to Roma’s official website.

Along with Fonseca, his entire coaching staff will leave the team. Fonseca’s allegedly agreed contract with him is finalizing the last matche. Meanwhile, Roma has agreed a contract with a new coach.

Thus, Roma will get a new coach after this season ends. And Italian media unanimously hail Maurizio Sarri as the new Roma coach.

Paulo Fonseca moved to Italy from Shakhtar Donetsk in 2019. But after a steady first season, his second season with Roma has been nothing short of disastrous.

His Roma are currently on the 7th step of the Serie A standings. On May 2, they lost to Sampdoria (0: 2).

The Giallorossi may soon concede the greatest number of goals since the club’s 2008/2009 season.

Moreover, they are likely to miss out on European football.

Last week the club failed miserably in the semifinals of the Europa League against Manchester United. With a 2-6 thrashing, the return match that will take place on Thursday, May 6, may as well not happen.

Fonseca’s Farewell

“Over these last two years we have experienced a number of highs and lows, but I have always given my all for this club and this city – a city that has always been so welcoming,” Fonseca said.

He went on to thank everyone who made his Roma leadership possible:

“I would like to thank the Roma fans, everyone we have worked with at Trigoria, the players, and all those who have helped us during this journey – in particular Dan and Ryan Friedkin, for their continuous support since they arrived, and Tiago Pinto, an incredible professional, whom I wish the best as he continues his work for the club.”

He added, “We still have some very important games in front of us this season that we want to win, and we will continue to give our all in order to do so.”
