Gareth Bale has made a huge difference in recent weeks, according to Tottenham manager Jose Mourinho, by breaching a “psychological barrier”.
Bale, who returned to Spurs on loan from Real Madrid, was unable to push his way into the starting lineup.
However, Bale scored twice in a 4-1 win over Crystal Palace on Sunday, giving him six goals and three assists in as many games.
And Mourinho has praised Gareth Bale for overcoming “psychological wounds” to prove what he is capable of in his second spell at Tottenham Hotspur.
Mourinho said: “I found psychological scars. When you have a couple of seasons with lots of injuries I think it is not about the muscular scars but the psychological scars – that brings fears and instability.
“There is a moment when you are working very well and everyone around you is giving everything we can give, there is a moment where that psychological barrier has to be broken.
“And he broke it. It was him, not us. We just supported him.”
