Paris Saint-Germain star winger Kylian Mbappe may play Manchester City, despite his calf injury, in the Champions League semi-finals.
After trying and failing to score, like Neymar, in the first leg of the semi-final tie, Mbappe is determined now.
Manchester City won two away goals in a 1-2 victory at the Parc des Princes then. Now, for the second leg, PSG need at least two away goals themselves to remain in the league.
So, an in-form Mbappe, skilled at goalscoring, may prove vital to PSG in the return leg.
Mbappe May Play Manchester City despite His Calf Injury
Mbappe reported discomfort in his right calf after playing against City in the first leg, but without any more details.
But his coach dismissed fears of an injury said at his Friday press conference.
“He received a blow that could have happened at any time during the match [against Man City],” Pochettino said. “It can happen. It’s not a serious problem but it created a muscle imbalance in the calf.”
Indeed, Kylian Mbappe has been included in Paris Saint-Germain’s squad for the second leg.
For their Champions League semi-final clash with Manchester City, PSG will thus travel to Etihad Stadium along with Mbappe.
The World Cup-winning forward rested for the Ligue 1 meeting with Lens on Saturday.
So, he is now ready for a return to action, and even Mauricio Pochettino has hinted that Mbappe could start.
“We still have to assess the situation with Kylian,” Pochettino said. “Today he’s going to train on his own and we will see if he can do it with the group at the end. We have one day left. We still haven’t made a decision.”
