Vazquez has suffered a cruciate ligament injury due to the challenge, Real Madrid have confirmed.
A statement by the club read: “Following tests carried out today on Lucas Vazquez by the Real Madrid Medical Services, he has been diagnosed with a sprain to the posterior cruciate ligament in his left knee.”
The Spain international’s exact recovery time is yet unknown, but Real are sure he will miss at least the rest of this entire season.
“His recovery will continue to be assessed,” the curt statement, posted on the club’s official website, concluded.
