Breaking news – FIFA suspends Pakistan and Chad over interference charges!
Football’s world governing body FIFA suspended Pakistan and Chad with immediate effect today, on Wednesday.
Read FIFA’s own statement on why FIFA suspends Pakistan and Chad now here.
It suspended the Pakistan Football Federation (PFF) due to third-party interference. On the other hand, it banned the Chadian Football Association (FTFA) due to government interference.
The Chadian Football Association (FTFA) suspension followed the government of Chad interfering in it’s affairs.
Some of the Chadian government authorities’ more recent decisions, which FIFA felt were…well, authoritarian, included to:
- permanently withdraw the powers delegated to the FTFA
- seize control of the FTFA premises
- establish a national committee for the temporary management of football in Chad
Meanwhile, the PFF, of Pakistan, suffered an unprecedented attack. Former PFF president, Syed Ashfaq Hussain Shah, and his group attacked the PFF office and held the people inside hostage.
In their official statement, FIFA revealed the negotiation terms that were ongoing during the hostage situation:
“FIFA issued a letter warning that, should the illegitimate occupation of the PFF headquarters not be lifted and the office bearers recognised by FIFA not be permitted free access to the building to carry out their mandate, the matter would be immediately submitted to the Bureau of the Council for decision.”– FIFA
