The game was played in the visitors’ half of the pitch from the very start.
Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Raheem Sterling had some good opportunities early on. However, both failed to show their effectiveness in these first passages.
Then, in the 11th minute, Jesse Lingard hit a powerful shot from distance. However, Elia Benedettini intervened this shot brilliantly.
A moment later, John Stones made a poor save from a header- it went just wide of the post.
Less than two minutes later, however, England were already up 1-0. Ben Chilwell flat-footed into the eleventh meter.
James Ward-Prowse broke free of a defender. He hit a precise shot into the bottom right-hand corner to give his team the first lead.
Shortly after, Sterling made a dangerous move with a shot into the side netting.
Calvert-Lewin, however, was more precise. It was him who scored the second goal – after a Reece James centering pass, he scored with his head.
In the following minutes, Gareth Southgate’s charges had several further opportunities to increase the score. Sterling was particularly active.
Sterling finally made his mark in the 31st minute. He ran into the penalty area and fired a powerful shot from an acute angle. The ball deflected off a San Marino defender and into the goal.
At the very end of the first half, Lingard could again have added to the scoring list, but again, Benedettini intervened brilliantly.
Eight minutes into the second half, Calvert-Levin scored a second time. This time, it was after a good center by Lingard. The latter spotted the completely unguarded Everton striker standing on the fifth meter.
Ten minutes later, Lingard could have added a goal himself, but yet again, his strike from an acute angle went straight at Benedettini.
In the 72nd minute, Ward-Prowse struck from a free kick. But, after the goalkeeper’s intervention the ball landed on the post.
Lingard’s long-range strike came moments later, but again Benedettini was on hand.
Seven minutes before the end of the game, however, the hosts scored their fifth goal.
In the 83rd minute, after a pass from Phil Foden, Ollie Watkins put the ball in the net.
With his precise shot from sixteen yards, the final score was 5-0.
