Allegri Rejected Real…and Here’s Why

Former Juventus coach Massimiliano Allegri has confirmed that he had Real Madrid reach out to him, when the club was searching for a substitute for Zinedine Zidane.

In 2018, Zidane decided to abandon Real after winning the Champions League for the third time in a row.

However, Allegri turned down a bid from Real Madrid in 2018, opting instead to stay in Turin out of loyalty to the Serie A champions.

“When Real Madrid called me three years ago, I had promised to Juventus that I would remain. That’s the only one I turned down,” Allegri told the Italian media Sky Sports Italia, over the weekend.

So, after Los Blancos had already been rejected by Allegri, Julen Lopetegui was chosen.

He had to resign as Spain coach on the eve of the World Cup to take the role.

Meanwhile, in four years, Allegri had won four Serie A titles and four Coppa Italia trophies with Juve.

He’d even led the club to two Champions League finals, losing to Zinedine Zidane’s Real Madrid in 2017.

In 2018, he only had a year left on his terms, but opted not to break it.
