It seemed that Argentina would follow the blow and score more goals but nothing of the sort happened. Colombia, on the other hand, sped up.

Juan Cuadrado, who hit Emiliano Martinez from a few meters, missed a great opportunity.

Meanwhile, Argentina’s captain Lionel Messi was doing a lot of work, serving passes to his teammates.

Nicolas Gonzalez failed to capitalize on a pass from Messi, though, as David Ospina deflected the ball into the corner.

Finally, in the 61st minute, Edwin Cordoba played a long pass. From this pass, Luis Dias took a difficult ball and, with a shot from an acute angle, he equalized.

Curiously, he scored the goal like several Argentinian goals – from a camera behind the end line of the pitch.

Colombia had further situations they created, such as the one in which Wilmar Barrios hit the post from distance. On the other hand, the Argentinians were not idle either.

However, Angel Di Maria – Lautaro Martinez, the duo, missed a great opportunity was missed. After the two dodged successfully around the Colombian defence, the latter misfired and didn’t score a goal.

So, eventually, no more goals emerged, in neither regular time nor in extra time, and the tally was 1-1.

So, the match went into penalty shootout. And, just as Spain in the first semi-final of Euro 2020, the Colombians got it horribly wrong here.

Indeed, Davinson Sanchez, Yerry Mina and Edwin Cardona didn’t use the elevens.

On the Argentine side, meanwhile, it only happened to Rodrigo De Paul.

In the end, however, Argentina did prove themselves to be the better team.

Argentina – Colombia 1-1, on penalties 3-2 (1-0)

Goals: Lautaro Martinez (7), Luis Diaz (61)
