Barcelona has mourned the loss of Lionel Messi, but their new manager Xavi Hernandez (transfer rumours) isn’t focused on him. Instead, the ex-Barcelona player and Ronald Koeman’s replacement will try to get more out of the players at his disposal. So, after just assuming the role of Barca head coach, Xavi urges Barcelona to move on from Messi’s football transfer away.
Barcelona’s new head coach, Xavi, believes the club should not focus on Lionel Messi’s departure. This is because, per the manager, the club has others who can step in. There is much talent, in other words, to fill the vacuum that Messi, the superstar striker, left.
Barcelona officially introduced Xavi Hernandez as the successor for Ronald Koeman (football transfer news) on Monday.
And since, one of the most important challenges facing Xavi is to optimize the attacking players at his disposal.
Xavi Urges Barcelona to Move on from Messi’s Football Transfer Away
Of course, in such a crucial stage, Xavi wishes he could call on Messi and other former teammates.
Nonetheless, the former Barcelona midfielder prefers to focus on the future rather than the past.
“I’d have liked to have managed Messi, of course, and also Samuel Eto’o, Ronaldinho… but they are not here,” he said at a news conference.
“I still have a close friendship with Leo, that is well known. He has written to wish me luck. As always, he has joked around. He is a real joker.
“I wish him all the luck in the world. He is the best player in the history of football and obviously the history of this club, but we do not have him.
“We have other players that need to perform and be good in his place; players who can make a difference on the pitch. We cannot think about the players we do not have.”
