Chelsea wonderkid Lewis Bate is close to joining Leeds United after rejecting a contract offer to remain at Stamford Bridge. According to Goal’s transfer news football, Bate may join Leeds soon because he has turned down Blues’ contract extension offer.
The England Under-19 international is a left-footed midfielder who is known for his impressive passing. He also possesses an uncanny ability to drive through the middle of the pitch.
Further, he displays strong leadership qualities in the youth team having led, as captain, Chelsea’s U-15s to treble-winning glory. This, in turn, led to him making his English U-18s debut as a 15-year-old, as he played alongside young stars like Bukayo Saka.
Bate has never played for Chelsea’s senior team but he has been a substitute on two occasions, unused either time.
Still, the Blues were keen to keep him even as he has reached the final year of his contract. They have only opted to sell him now because he himself pushed for a move away.
