After talks with Paulo Fonseca fell through, Gennaro Gattuso is in the running to become Tottenham’s next manager. Following breaking football news today of him leaving Fiorentina after just 23 days in charge, Tottenham are in contact with Gattuso already.
Jose Mourinho left the club only days before the Carabao Cup final against Manchester City in April.
Ever since, though Ryan Mason has stepped in as the caretaker manager, Spurs have been looking for a new manager.
Meanwhile, Gattuso himself first left Napoli, and now (today) he has left his employment at Fiorentina.
He’s logged in only a little over three weeks on the job. And he had been out of work for only a few hours when news of Spurs’ interest broke.
Tottenham Are in Contact with Gattuso
So now, Tottenham Hotspur are talking to Gennaro Gattuso again.
This revelation of Gattuso quitting Fiorentina must have been a significant blow to Spurs. Tottenham had previously reached an agreement with Fonseca on a contract he would sign with the club.
However, negotiation talks are said to have met a stumbling block over the financial aspects of the arrangement.
Fonseca, whom Mourinho recently replaced at Roma, emerged as a surprising possibility only a few weeks ago.
Indeed, an announcement declaring his hiring, a switch in coaches essentially, would also have likely come in the coming weeks.
However, according to Gianluca Di Marzio, talks have broken down, and the club has now shifted its focus to Gattuso.
