Shameful Day for Football Today – His Own Fans Made Roberto Cry

Barcelona defender Sergi Roberto couldn’t hold his tears after his own fans booed him during the Champions League group stage. In their opening football match against Bayern Munich at Camp Nou, they lost 0-3, to head coach Ronald Koeman’s grief. But that wasn’t the only reason it was a shameful day for football today – his own fans made Roberto cry.

29-year-old Sergi Roberto played for Barcelona’s starting eleven but was subbed off with half an hour remaining on the clock.

But while he was leaving the pitch, the audience at Camp Nou, which means Barcelona’s own fans, jeered at him.

Shameful Day for Football Today – His Own Fans Made Roberto Cry

The stadium crowd at Barcelona-Bayern Munich, which the hosts were losing, booed him and jeered Sergi Roberto off the pitch.

According to AS, the player felt devastated. And he couldn’t help crying in the dressing room as his teammates tried to comfort him.

In a show for solidarity, the Blaugrana captain Gerard Pique supported Roberto with words of encouragement and criticized the fans.

Pique: It Hurts Me a Lot

Barcelona defender Gerard Pique has expressed his dissatisfaction with the fans jeering his teammate and their own player Sergi Roberto.

The audience at the Camp Nou grew impatient with Roberto as he struggled in his wing-back role.

A midfielder in a new position, Roberto left for a substitute in the 59th minute, when Barcelona fans booed him.

Their jeering him off the pitch made him unable to withstand tears in the dressing room later, which hurts Pique.

Pique said, as per Marca: “It hurts me a lot personally because I know Sergi, he’s a spectacular human being and loves this club more than anybody else.

“I’d like to remind people that he’s not a full-back – he’s a midfielder. He made a sacrifice to play in this position and he’s done it phenomenally many times. It really hurts but people are free to voice their opinions.”

This whole incident is too upsetting to put in words but we will try.

To every football fan out there, your footballers are human beings. Everyone has a bad day and everyone deserve time and understanding to excel in their work, even professional athletes. And finally, everyone at least deserves to be treated with respect, especially when they are playing for fans, for you.
