Salernitana beat Venezia 2-1 in their first Serie A, the Italian, first tier, top flight league, meeting since 1999. So, in last night’s Serie A football results, Salernitana’s late goal saved them at the Pier Luigi Penzo stadium.
Despite this dramatic, (literal) last-minute victory, Salernitana have managed to gain only 7 points across 10 Serie A fixtures now.
They are struggling at the bottom of the table with yesterday’s rivals Venezia who place 16th, only one point ahead.
Serie A Football Results – Salernitana’s Late Goal Saved Them
With both teams looking to secure a place at the top-flight division, it was Venezia who struck first. And they did so after just 13 minutes into the game.
A well-worked move saw Cristian Molinaro play a square ball into the box, which David Okereke coolly dummied.
This allowed Mattia Aramu to emphatically put the ball into the back of the net.
Salernitana, stunned into action after conceding at such an early stage, attempted equalizing by creating a handful of half-hearted chances.
However, Sergio Romero denied all of those efforts as he kept Venezia ahead in the first half. So, the two sides headed into the dressing rooms for the half time break at 1-0.
The hosts finally crumbled under the pressure, though, in the second half, at an hour mark.
At 61 minutes, Franck Ribery played in Federico Bonazzoli, whose accurate shot restored the parity.
The tables turned completely when Venezia centre-back Ethan Ampadu received his second yellow card, and had to quit the pitch.
He had to leave only five minutes after conceding the equalizer, leaving The Lagunari outnumbered for the final 20 minutes.
The visitors then completed their comeback from behind when Sergio Romero fumbled a cross straight into Andrea Schiavone’s path. And the latter fired the ball into the middle of the goal securing all three points for the visitors.
