Serie A Football Results – Milan Won 2-4 on Franck Kessie’s Brace

After losing to Napoli in their previous football match, AC Milan have secured an important Serie A win at Empoli. So, in Serie A football results, Milan won 2-4 on Franck Kessie’s brace, away against Empoli before the winter break.

Thiago Motta’s side were winless in six league games heading into Wednesday’s clash. And unfortunately, Empoli lost a third consecutive home league match.

Moreover, they became the first team to win a Serie A match without having a shot on target since statisticians Opta began collecting data in 2004-05.

Milan are now going into a two-week winter break in second place with 42 points, four points behind leaders Internazionale.

At the same time, Napoli suffered a shock 1-0 defeat at home to relegation battling Spezia. And this means that the third-placed Neapolitans are now three points behind the Rossoneri.

So, the result in Naples, where Juan Jesus’ own goal meant Spezia surprised Napoli by 1-0, made Milan’s evening better.

“Getting back to winning was what counted today. We needed it for the league table and for our confidence,” AC Milan head coach Stefano Pioli told Sky Italia.

“We are showing that we are competitive again, but the final step is always the most difficult one,” Pioli added.

Milan’s recent dip in form actually coincided with a growing injury list. And star striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic was the latest player to be on the sidelines ahead of their trip to Tuscany.

But that didn’t matter here because of the spectacular effort that Franck Kessie made.

AC Milan deployed the Ivory Coast international in a more advanced attacking midfield position. And he excelled in the role by striking twice before half-time, on either side of Nedim Bajrami’s goal for Empoli.

Indeed, Kessie’s second goal was the 25-year-old’s 13th league goal of 2021. That’s the most a Milan midfielder has scored in a calendar year since Brazilian great Kaka netted 15 in 2008.
