Wolves dominated the first half, forcing Jordan Pickford into saves from Ruben Neves and Francisco Trincao early on.

In fact, they even had the ball in the net after 15 minutes through Hwang Hee-chan. But VAR correctly called out his shot for being offside.

That didn’t stop Kilman from giving the team a well-deserved lead just before the half-hour mark. He rose highest from a corner to head in the ball.

And a startling backpass from Ben Godfrey allowed Jimenez through to score a goal just a few minutes later. The Mexican slotted home a wonderful attempt to double Wolves’ lead heading into the half.

After the break, Everton improved and found a way back into the game through Alex Iwobi’s low strike. His shot was was too powerful for Jose Sa to stop and nestled into the back of the net. This goal set up an exciting final quarter-hour for this match.

Trincao twisted his way into the box seconds later and wasted a sitter. He did so by slicing wide from ten yards out when he should have scored.

Rafa Benitez’s side battled for an equalizer. And they even came close through Anthony Gordon, whose late header prompted a brilliant save from Sa.

But they had given themselves too much work to do and had to concede.
