Premier League Football Results – United Beat Arsenal 3-2 at Old Trafford
Arsenal took the lead in bizarre fashion in the 13th minute. From a corner United keeper David De Gea went down clutching his foot after team mate Fred stood on him.
And, taking advantage of this unguarded goal, Emile Smith Rowe drilled a shot in from the edge of the box.
But the referee, Martin Atkinson, had not blown his whistle before the ball went into the net. And indeed, no foul had taken place, so the goal stood.
United’s protests were to no avail and thus they fought back to level terms a minute before the interval.
The equalizer came from a Bruno Fernandes strike after a delightful back-heeled set-up from Fred.
Ronaldo put United in front in the 52nd when Diogo Dalot found Marcus Rashford on the right. CR7 clinically converted the winger’s low cross for the Portuguese forward’s 800th goal.
The Gunners struck back quickly through Martin Odegaard who arrived on the edge of the box. From there, he guided home a fine low ball from Gabriel Martinelli.
But eventually, to break the 2-2 deadlock, Ronaldo notched the winner from the penalty spot.
Referee Atkinson went to the pitchside monitor and ruled that Odegaard brought down Fred, that’s how Ronaldo got the penalty.
