Premier League Football Results – Leicester City Fought Hard for a 1-0 Win

Among other of yesterday’s Premier League football results, Leicester City fought hard for a 1-0 win over Liverpool on Tuesday. Title-chasers Liverpool slipped to their second Premier League defeat of the season on Tuesday after Leicester substitute Ademola Lookman scored. They thus suffered their only loss after West Ham’s shock beating (the football news) away at Leicester’s King Power Stadium.

Liverpool had a five-day break prior to their trip to Leicester after Boxing Day’s fixture against Leeds United was postponed.

An though they were playing their second game in three days, they looked much fresher than Leicester.

Albeit they eventually struck out, Liverpool soon took control of the match.

After bombarding a Leicester backline which was suffering an injuries’ plague, early on, Jordan Henderson volleyed Liverpool’s first chance over.

Wilfred Ndidi fouled Mohamed Salah in the penalty area to give Liverpool a golden opportunity to break the scoreless deadlock.

The penalty from the Egyptian, however, was poor, coming too close to Kasper Schmeichel. The rebound header from the Liverpool striker also ended up coming out off the crossbar.

Since the start of 2020, Leicester goalkeeper Schmeichel has saved more penalties in the Premier League than any other goalkeeper. And even as Tuesday’s save marked Schmeichel’s third in this period, it was Salah’s third Liverpool-penalty miss across all competitions.

Salah then forced another fine save out of Schmeichel as Liverpool continued to throw everything at Leicester.

Sadio Mane’s miss stunned Liverpool’s bench, only for further disbelief to spread after Lookman’s powerful finish upon a swift counter.

There were last-ditch blocks aplenty and bodies put on the line. Eventually, though, Leicester did their job well, with the Reds players sinking to their knees upon the final whistle.
