Premier League Football Results – Leeds Won 3-1 Crucially over Burnley
The refreshed hosts applied plenty of early pressure, with their first effort at goaling coming from Raphinha’s audacious attempt. He shot the ball from just inside Burnley’s half but it flew just over the opponents’ goalpost.
Tyler Roberts should’ve scored just after the half-hour mark but headed wide, before the Elland Road faithful secured an opener they. And it was through Jack Harrison on the rebound, after Burnley saved his initial strike.
Leeds could have done with another first-half goal, with their slender advantage leading to plenty of nerves for Burnley’s defence. Their guests last night, after all, had conceded 14 goals after the break in their previous three games.
Chris Wood had two good first-half openings for Burnley and got some help up front for the second period. And then, Maxwel Cornet came off the bench to make his mark, which he didn’t have to wait much for.
His free kick looked too far from the net and unlikely to trouble Illan Meslier in the home goal. But Cornet’s sixth league goal of the season sneaked inside the post to level the score.
However, Leeds responded well to this concession. Indeed, Raphinha should have retaken the hosts’ lead, but the Brazilian fired wide with an open goal at his mercy.
Dallas scored the game-deciding strike – simple in its creation from a short corner but the Northern Ireland international was brilliant. He expertly put the ball away for his first goal of the season, before James put the match beyond Burnley.
