Premier League Football Results – City Easily Won 0-4 over Newcastle

Manchester City will lead the Premier League on Christmas Day because they’ve won their final match before the winter break. After Liverpool also did so by 3-1 in Premier League football results, City easily won 0-4 over Newcastle United. So, the Citizens scored four goals and conceded none in this away football match at St. James’ Park on Sunday.

Sunday’s result was City’s seventh-consecutive league win, a run that dates back to October 2021. Meanwhile, Newcastle stayed second-last at the bottom of the Premier League table with 10 points.

An early goal from defender Ruben Dias opening the scoring for Manchester City. Strikes from defender Joao Cancelo, winger Riyad Mahrez and forward Raheem Sterling followed and ensured Pep Guardiola’s side a comfortable win.

On the other hand, Eddie Howe’s Newcastle United failed to make ground in their bid for survival.

Dias broke the deadlock for Manchester City inside five minutes, taking advantage of a mistake from Newcastle defender Ciaran Clark. Clark couldn’t stop a looped cross on the six-yard box’s edge, which allowed Dias to head home from close range.

Then, Cancelo doubled City’s lead at the 27th minute. Cancelo ended a meandering run through Newcastle’s half with a fierce shot from the edge of the 18-yard box.

Striker Gabriel Jesus almost added another early goal in the second half as he headed from point-blank range. But Newcastle goalkeeper Martin Dubravka denied Jesus this opportunity to score City’s third goal.

Mahrez scored City’s third with a volley on 64 minutes, finishing an inviting cross from defender Oleksandr Zinchenko. The referee originally deemed the goal to be offside by the linesman but Video Assistant Referee VAR later awarded it.

Sterling capped his side’s commanding performance on 86 minutes by slotting home unmarked at the back post. This goal was following a cross from Jesus.

The referee seemed to making dubious decisions throughout because he denied Newcastle what looked to be a clear penalty. On the half-hour mark, City keeper Ederson clattered into Ryan Fraser, but neither referee Martin Atkinson nor the VAR intervened.

Things got worse for Newcastle as Mahrez turned home City captain Kevin De Bruyne’s cross from the left with a deft volley. So, in the 63rd minute to notch, Mahrez scored his 50th EPL goal after a lengthy VAR review.
