Last season’s title-holders Manipur are going to lock horns with Odisha in the second semi-final clash of the ongoing Hero Senior Women’s National Football Championship 2021/22 in Kerala, on Wednesday. So, among other news of Indian football players, Odisha will challenge defending women’s champions Manipur in these Kerala semi-finals.

The Manipur side, from the northeast, has had a brilliant run in the tournament thus far.

Hero Senior Women’s National Football Championship 2021-22 placed them in Group A along with Daman & Diu, Pondicherry, and Meghalaya.

And lo and behold! – they won all three of their Group Stage matches, scoring 21 goals and conceding none altogether.

On the other hand, Odisha have also played some beautiful football to secure a semi-final berth. They faced the likes of Haryana, Gujarat, and Andhra Pradesh in Group F.

And along the way, Odisha have managed to score 18 goals overall, while conceding only one.

Upon reaching the quarterfinals, Manipur defeated Assam in the first quarterfinal match on Sunday (December 5) by two goals.

Kiranbala Chanu (9′) and Babysana Devi (65′) helped the 20-time national champions’ team reach the semifinal stage of the tournament.

Odisha, meanwhile, ended Tamil Nadu’s fairytale-like run in the last quarterfinal match. They did so by virtue of two goals scored by Karishma Oram (27′) and Satyabati Khadia (37′).

Actually, Tamil Nadu were the heavyweights coming into this quarterfinal match. After all, they had the likes of Sandhiya Ranganathan and Pandiselvi in their ranks.

Regardless of this weight in the opponents’ talent, though, Odisha put up a brilliant team display to take the honours.

Now, in the semi-final, Odisha take on Assam, the defending champions who won Hero Senior Women’s National Football Championship 2020-21.

This second semi-final match of the Hero Senior Women’s NFC will take place on December 7. The two teams will come together at the EMS Stadium, Kozhikode.
