Just four minutes into the game, French goalkeeper Hugo Lloris had to make an incredible, reactionary save. He stopped Belgium midfielder Kevin De Bruyne’s deflected drive from nine yards.

On the other hand, Belgium began to gain control after a few dangerous Kylian Mbappé counter-attacks.

Yannick Carrasco’s low shot took a small deflection into the near bottom corner but gave Belgium a 1-0 lead. VAR and the referee waved for the footballers to play on, despite France’s claims of a foul in the build-up.

The Red Devils increased their lead when ex-Inter striker Romelu Lukaku burst away from Lucas Hernandez down the right flank.

Lukaku hit an amazing strike from the tightest of angles into the roof of the net with his right boot. Meanwhile, Lloris could have done a better job of goal saving yet again.

In the second half, France began to claw their way back into the game. But Antoine Griezmann poked wide from six yards on a Mbappé cross from the right, with the latter rolling across.

Karim Benzema, with his back to goal, spun on the spot to kick the ball from 12 yards, and scored.

Youri Tielemans then went through the back of Griezmann for a penalty. And Mbappé converted this penalty shot into a goal he scored with absolute force and precision into the top corner.

After a give-and-go with Benzema, Lloris leapt to fingertip a De Bruyne rocket over the bar. At the same time, Thibaut Courtois parried Paul Pogba’s attempt and Mbappé shot wide.

Belgium got the ball in the net with Lukaku just moments after that error, for a potential 3-2 tally. However, Lukaku was just offside on the Carrasco cross from the left.

A few minutes later, with extra-time looming, Pogba’s superb free-kick crashed off the crossbar but it was in vain.

Only seconds later, though, in the very last minute, Milan star Theo Hernandez pounced on a poor Toby Alderweireld clearance. And Hernandez hammered the ball, left-footed, into the far bottom corner from just inside the box, superbly completing France’s turnaround.
