MLS Levy Fines on Neville for Violating Their Public Criticism Policy

Inter Miami head coach Phil Neville was fined by Major League Soccer, that is, MLS. The American league have issue with his comments, after an October 9 loss to the New York Red Bulls. So, we are seeing MLS levy fines on Neville for violating their public criticism policy by criticizing the league’s officiating.

MLS confirmed that Inter Miami manager Phil Neville made statements that were in breach of the league’s public criticism policy. At the same time, however, they did not disclose the exact amount of the fine.

During the latest post-match press conference, Phil Neville claimed that the officials were to blame for the squad’s losing streak. And then, the coach demanded a ‘massive probe’ into how his team is treated.

“I don’t want to sound like a broken record but something is fundamentally wrong with the way referees treat Inter Miami,” Neville said.

“There has to be a massive investigation into the decisions given against Inter Miami. We want this to be the best league in the world, but we’ve got decisions like that. We’ve had our integrity questioned this year,” he added.

“We got stones thrown at us and had to take a lot of absolute s— from a lot of people and had to accept it. I can’t accept this, I’ve got to defend my club against something unjust and wrong. I feel we’re being cheated.”

The loss to the Red Bulls dropped Miami to 11th place in the Eastern Conference standings. So, they are currently eight points out of the last playoff slot.

However, this isn’t the first time the league has imposed a sanction on Inter Miami.

MLS fined the Inter Miami team $2 million earlier this season, the most in the league history. And as we covered the football news then, this fine was for violating the league’s wage budget and roster limits.
