Sir Alex Ferguson has remarked that Manchester United midfielder Bruno Fernandes has what United need. Legendary former Manchester United manager Sir Alex praises Fernandes as he calls him a “fantastic” player.
Since his arrival from Sporting in January 2020, the Portuguese midfielder has been a stellar figure at Old Trafford.
Fernandes, 26, has already helped the Red Devils secure second place in the Premier League this season. He has also aided them to a spot in the Europa League final.
This makes him a strong contender for the Manchester United Player of the Year title.
Another reason for the award is that he tops the United charts in the goals and assists tally this season. He has 27 goals and 13 assists to his name, across all competitions this season.
Finally, he will bring his talent in the midfield to Portugal’s team as they commence their Euro 2020 campaign soon.
Sir Alex Praises Fernandes
Seeing all this, Sir Alex Ferguson, an ex-manager of Manchester United, says the Portugal international impresses him.
“Well, he’s been fantastic the lad,” Ferguson said to BBC Radio Manchester.
“He’s scored important goals and even when he’s taking his penalty kicks he’s very, very confident about them and I can’t even think if a goalkeeper’s got anywhere near his penalty kicks.”
Speaking of Fernandes’ impact at United, Sir Alex believes he offers something the team have been looking for, for years:
“So he’s calm, his shots from outside the box are always a threat and he’s got the thing that United have really needed in the last few years with his ability to make a pass in the final third.
“It opens up defences and I think that’s important,” he summed it up.
